Augsburg Germany is an old city, a walled city, a diverse town in the shadow of Munich. The open air amphitheatre in Augsburg seats about 2000 and is in a park area known as the Red Gate. It was built around 1544 and given its present day form by Elias Holl in 1622.
St Ulrich's (Basilica) It is common Sunday practice to walk through the city enjoying the sunshine and meeting with friends and family. or Augsburg is dominated by two churches. St Ulrich's is known as the Basilica, and at the other end of the main street and equal distance from the city hall is the Dom or Cathedral. This former Roman road runs from north to south. Augsburg is also a walled city of the 15th century although the walls and fortifications are not entirely in place. The moat is in place with paths. You can pretty much walk around the city on a sunny afternoon. If you get a hotel within the main part of the city the walking is easy. From the Dom it is a wee bit further to the Mozart residence.
