The way out of the Las Vegas valley leads into the foothills and canyons. A great destination is up towards Boulder City. They welcome you with antique and gift shops. Go a bit further and spend the afternoon at the Boulder dam which uses the water, than spits it out to be used again by California. Tour the hydro-electric facility from top to bottom. It is an engineering marvel of its time and a wonder even in this day and age.

The trolley across the canyon is still in place. The power distribution system is awesome and in your tour of the turbines and backroom areas you truly get the idea of the enormity of the project.
