Buffets

Mexican - Italian - Continental

Continental - la Laguna

The main buffet is a large open air palapa with dual serving lines. They serve multi-national staples for breakfasts if you can wait til 7 AM. It is open for all three meal times. Everyone enjoys this buffet.

The master at the grill offered a white fish or salmon in the evening.

The buffet lines and the restaurants were all decorated for traditional Mexico and the "Day of the Dead" during the time we were there. The tables were set formally with tablecloths and cloth napkins. Even though the main buffet (La Laguna) seated 350-400 it was in several rooms and spacious enough to give you a comfortable dining experience (although sometimes the music was a bit loud). Cloth napkins and tablecloth for lunches and dinners.

Day of the Dead celebrations provided an insight into Mexican life. Also provided a bit of humor in the buffet display as the chefs were represented on the alter.

It is not uncommon to find Mariachi players strolling the restaurants and buffets. They are also in the plaza areas in the evenings on the theme nights.

Don't be surprised if you encounter a large character strolling amongst the tables. Kids are special and their food is also. Mac/Cheese is available (with potato fries) and also chocolate milk. Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and hamburgers were popular also.

Salads were special and well prepared. The ceviche pictured below was fantastic.

The food was as good as any resort and better than many. Smaller serving dishes meant fresh selections and there were frequent carve-to-order or grilling right before your eyes. Even a dessert got into the act ....flaming apples. Very tasty. The crème brûlée pictured below was served especially for Mexican night in the buffet.

Fajitas and more ...grilled before your eyes.

There is a bar and lounge area behind the Mexican restaurant overlooking the mangrove wildlife area. You can sit in this area to eat if you like or stay inside where it is air conditioned. This restaurant is limited in operating hours during low season.

Other specialty areas included Mexican sauces and peppers. The Mexican restaurant had pork, beef, chicken and fish cooked in several ways. It was fun to take a bit extra of a specialty that you favored. Don't forget to try something different and expand your palates horizons.

Marzipan skulls and the displays of Los Dias de los Muertos.

Italian (Open one day a week)

A delightful and air conditioned buffet with great pasta and variety.

A wonderful selection of great foods. Our favorite evening buffet. Always 3 soups...cream of asparagus,  minestrone, and a seafood creamed soup. The brochette bar (center) was very popular ...my personal "mini-pizza" hangout. And, as always, the dessert were a hit plus they had cappuccino ice cream with toppings you could pile on. Wow !!!

The Italian buffet had 10-12 feet section devoted exclusively to the brochette.
