Sweet Flight 2001

A slight haze in the morning as we lifted off the runway at Crystal airport, Minneapolis. We needed a relaxing flight to take a few snaps of the city, friend's digs, and the joy of flying. The plan was to follow the Mississippi river down through the

city and get an aerial shot or two of the St Anthony dam complex with its #1 lock. Number one lock of the river meant it was the first lock on the north and allowed navigation up to the northern parts of the city for barge traffic carrying scrap iron and cement, etc.

The city's skyline appeared in the haze. The Pillsbury building, Wells Fargo (Norwest Tower), IDS, and other corporate America giants. As we swung around the southern part of the city the Metrodome, home of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and University of Mn Gophers, came into view. Circling around and around like a bird watching prey, we took in the view on the west side of Minneapolis with the sculpture garden, Loring Park, and great old churches of several faiths. Freeways crisscrossed as they provided entrance to the city.

Heading to the south again we entered into the airspace of the MSP airport complex. Rising in altitude to track to the south of the cities we crossed above and through the regularly scheduled airline traffic. Our hats were off in appreciation to the traffic controllers who guided us through. We dropped to the south and continued on the sweetest flight one could have on a summer day.
