Venice Italy

A small restaurant off St Mark's Square lacks in presentation but not in variety and novelty. The seafood assortment presented a good variety right from the display case.

The specialty of the house was the seafood spaghetti, served with the squid ink.

The water taxi is the means of transportation. And just like buses in the city, they crowd on and pack the aisles.

As you go through the canals and look up, it is an eerie site. Lights may be on in the apartments of the 3rd and higher floors but the lower floors are vacant and dark.  Bare and yellow bulbs preserve the images of long past times.

Visiting at night was a novel experience. Something you don't think about is the absence of street lights which makes the canals and dark shapes of old buildings especially gloomy.

Even the famous bridge (Diablo) seems abandoned. Later it was bustling with activity and, I am sure, is lit for the Christmas and carnival times of the year.

Walking on the streets over the frequent canal bridges you can find many upscale shops and plenty of interesting tourist items. I enjoyed that the evening dress of the Italians was more formal. It is not unusual to see animal fur being worn on a cool evening.

Glass, leather, bright hand painting all contributed to the shops offerings.

To add to the evenings enjoyment the parking ticket for the car was misplaced. An hour or two later and a trusting attendant and all was straightened out and we were allowed to leave.
