Saale-Unstrut River Valley

The valley stretches from the northeast to the southwest of the former East Germany. The valley hosts small vineyards (about 1500 acres total) and no wine is exported. It is all consumed locally.

Nestled in the central valley is Naumburg. Enjoying the countryside comes easy. Canoe or kayak on the river. Bike the trails to a castle for lunch. Camp along the river and hike trails along the ridges.

The ICE roars through the valley several times a day.

The regional trains pass much slower and the small kleingartens line the rail line right-of-way.

As you go along the river and the winery and vineyards, you can see the mistletoe high in the trees.

The small plaza at the train station is shared by the KaiserHof Hotel and some smaller shops. A short taxi ride takes you to the center plaza of the town. Right on the plaza is another hotel worth consideration. Comfortable rooms and congenial staff make your stay a wonderful experience.

Naumburg is a former walled city and the double walls are still visible. Ideal for a walking tour and exploration.
