The fish fountain
in Marienplatz is our starting point. A flower
shop on the corner provides a bright spot on a gloomy cloudy day. All
within 3 blocks after turning into the Dienerstrasse, we are in the
upscale area for shopping. It
is within 6 square blocks you find the specialty shops that many a
tourist has traversed. Names like Max Krug, Dahlmeiers, and others you
can find on websites.
The gateway area to the museums,
gardens and the University is just beyond as you come to Odeonsplatz. In
the Feldherrnhalle area you may see booths of crafts and other
specialties. The area is overshadowed
by the towering TheatinerKirche
and the General's Hall (1844),
and nearby Royal Residence. This town palace is a complex of buildings
from the 16th to 19th century. It reflects the Renaissance, baroque,
rococo, and neo-classical styles.
Stop for a meal of Wienerschnitzel and a glass
of wine.
The wine is served in a marked goblet with a line showing what is the
"fair" fill by law. The cutlet is served with the boiled parsley
potatoes, lemon on the side and their "slaw" which is sour kraut. The
beets are part of the salad and are served cold.
Don't forget dessert! A fritter with "cream"
and a cup of coffee just might hit the spot. Especially if you have a
chilly return to the Marienplatz area.
