A city of contrasts with towers of the ancient ages mixed into the modern skyscrapers and busy city traffic. Near the rail depot you could be in any large city in the world. The stores and street entrepreneurs are everywhere.

Sightseeing boats at rest along the shore until the season once again blossoms with spring. In the high season the river is busy with traffic and the banks are lined with picnic goers and lots of young people meeting and having a party time.

Water samples were being taken by the boat crew near the outlets of the cities storm drains that go into the river. Barges constantly migrate along the waterway.

The river cruisers of the Rhine where in Frankfurt and lined up along the shoreline. When a large convention is in town they bring these floating hotels to supplement the hotel accommodations. The normal use during tourist season is to cruise from Amsterdam down to Austria sometimes taking weeks but providing a leisurely experience for the tourists. Some even have a platform on the back and carry an automobile perhaps for the crew to use on stopovers.
